
Cleaning and Sterilization for Conventional Laryngoscope

CARE AND SERVICE OF CONVENTIONAL LARYNGOSCOPES
CLEAN IMMEDIATELY AFTER USE TO PREVENT RESIDUES FROM DRYING.
PRECAUTIONS
DO NOT ULTRASONIC CLEAN, or USE DRY HEAT STERILIZATION. REMOVE BATTERIES BEFORE
CLEANING, DISINFECTING OR STERILIZING THE LARYNGOSCOPE HANDLE.
CLEANING:
Remove batteries from handle. Then, immerse sealed handle and blade in a presoak
enzymatic cleaner solution, for two minutes. Remove items from enzymatic solution
and rinse with lukewarm running tap water a minimum of one minute to remove
residue and visible soil. Then immerse in a detergent. Remove bottom caps and
brush thoroughly using a soft-bristle brush while immersed ensuring all hard
to reach areas are accessed. Rinse under cold running tap water at room temperature.
Dry with a lint free clean cloth and reassemble. Visually inspect each device
for any visible soil. Test for proper function. Then follow DISINFECTION or
STEAM STERILIZATION procedure.
DISINFECTION:
Handles, with bottom cap secured, and blades may be immersed in an activated
2.4% glutaraldehyde solution without surfactant (i.e. 14 Day). Immerse for 45
minutes at room temperature. Rinse all parts two times for a minimum of one
minute in purifi ed water. Dry all parts with a clean, lint free cloth and reassemble.
Test for proper function.
STEAM STERILIZATION:
After cleaning laryngoscope units (as above) remove batteries and insert in
appropriate autoclave pouch.
GRAVITY DISPLACEMENT STEAM
- Temperature: 121° C (250° F)
- Cycle Time: 30 Minutes
- Dry Time: 15 Minutes
SETUP PROCEDURE
BATTERY SERVICE & TESTING:
Place two 1.5 Volt batteries, positive end fi rst, into Penlight, Medium, or
Large handles (Fig .. ). In Stubby handle insert one positive end down, the
other positive end up (Fig ..) reinstall end cap. Attach conventional blade
in operating position. Lamp should illuminate. NOTE: If lamp will not light
using stubby handles reverse batteries to change polarity.
LAMP SERVICE & TESTING:
To replace lamp, unscrew battery chamber from handle head. Remove old lamp by
rotating it counterclockwise. Reinstall new lamp in handle head. Verify lamp
is fitted properly.
