
Cleaning and Sterilization for Conventional Laryngoscope
Blades and Handles: Blades and Handles:
Cleaning: Remove blade and batteries from handle, then immerse blade
and sealed handle in a presoak/cleaner enzymatic solution, such as Klenzyme
for two minutes. Remove blade and handle in a detergent, such as Manu-klenz.
Remove bottom caps and light guide, then brush thoroughly using a soft-bristle
brush while immersed, rinse under cold running tap water. Dry blade and handle
with a soft cloth and reassemble. Test for proper function.
Disinfection: Battery compartment bottom cap should be secured on the
handle. Immerse blade and handle in an activated 2.4% glutaraldehyde solution
without surfactants (ie 14 day). Immerse for 45 minutes at room temperature.
Rinse all parts two times in sterile distilled water. Dry all parts with a clean,
soft cloth and reassemble. Test for proper function.
Steam Sterilization: After cleaning laryngoscope units (as above) remove
batteries and double wrap in standard (140 count 2-ply) cotton muslin.

Temperature: 121° C
Cycle Time: 30 minutes
Dry Time: 0 minutes
Prevacuum Steam:
Temperature: 132° C
Cycle Time: 4 minutes
Dry Time: 0 minutes
WARNING: Do not ultrasonic clean, or use dry heat sterilization or disinfect
with iodophor liquids. Remove batteries before cleaning, disinfecting or sterilizing
the laryngoscope handle.
Do not submerge a hot light guide in cold liquid. You may use STERIS but not
Sterrad.
