| This instrument is used to measure the distance between the thyroid notch and the lower border of the mandible in the midline with the patient positioned in full neck extension. Difficulty in visualization of the larynx can be anticipated when the distance between the thyroid notch and the mandible is less than the length of the gauge (6.5 cm). |
